EasyTools Image Optimizer
Optimize WordPress images with guided scanning, WebP generation, verified original backups and secure recovery.
Free EasyTools account required to download. The package is the SHA-256 verified release published through EasyTools Update Center.

What it does
Guided, read-only scanning
Step 1 scans Media Library originals and thumbnails, and optionally other upload folders. Scanning only reads files and never changes them.
WebP copies you confirm
Optimization runs only when you start it and confirm the exact number of files. JPEG and PNG originals are kept; a smaller WebP copy is created next to each one and verified before it is used.
Verified original backups
Before an image is changed, an encrypted backup is created and checked. Backups are never deleted automatically, and you can restore one image, a selection or everything.
Secure recovery kit
Set up the encryption keys from WordPress admin without SSH, then download and verify a passphrase-protected recovery kit to keep away from your server.
Honest savings
Results separate savings on original files, WebP copy savings and unchanged images. Images that would not get smaller are left as they are.
Server-load protection
Queues work in small batches, pause or wait when the server is busy, and can be paused, resumed or stopped at any time.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.2 or later, PHP 7.4 or later
- PHP
openssl(AES-256-GCM); GD or Imagick with WebP support for WebP copies - HTTPS for the WordPress-admin recovery setup
- A private folder outside your website for the encryption keys (the setup suggests one)
- Free disk space for encrypted original backups
Good to know
- No automatic or scheduled optimization: images change only through queues you confirm.
- WebP is the supported copy format; AVIF copies are not created.
- WebP delivery covers WordPress-generated image markup, not CSS backgrounds or CDN-rewritten URLs.
- Updates arrive through the normal WordPress Updates screen from EasyTools Update Center, checked against a SHA-256 checksum.
- Images are processed on your own server; nothing is sent to an external image service.
Get started in three steps
Install and activate the plugin → complete Backup & Recovery setup → scan, then optimize a small selection first.
