Install, configure and troubleshoot Member Geo
Everything you need to get from download to safe Pro login protection. Current version: v2.1.6 · Requires WordPress 6.2+ and PHP 7.4+.
1. Installation
- Download the plugin ZIP with Download Free. A free EasyTools account is required; the download is saved in My Products.
- In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP and click Install Now, then Activate.
- Open Member Geo in the WordPress admin menu. Free monitoring starts immediately: registration country, latest login country, IP and login history.
- Updates arrive through the normal WordPress Updates screen. Every package is verified with SHA-256 before it is installed.
2. Activate Member Geo Pro
- Buy Member Geo Pro (RM 39.90/year, 1 website) and upload your Touch ’n Go receipt at checkout.
- Your order shows as Pending until our team verifies the payment. The ETMG- licence key is then emailed to you and shown in My Products → Licences. No licence is issued before payment is verified.
- In WordPress open Member Geo, paste the key into Already purchased? and click Activate. The key is bound to that website.
- Renewal extends the same key for another year; nothing needs to be re-entered. Use Re-check licence on the Member Geo screen after renewing.
3. Set up login blocking safely
- Leave Exclude administrators from geo blocking and Trust current admin IP when saving switched on while you configure rules.
- Add trusted networks first (office, home or VPN IPs), then blocked countries (ISO codes such as
KP) and blocked IPs or CIDR ranges. - Switch on Enable login blocking. Blocking applies to WordPress sign-in only: username or email with password, application passwords, XML-RPC, social login and passwordless links. Your public website stays open.
- Behind your own load balancer or reverse proxy (not Cloudflare, which is detected automatically), add its address under Settings → Trusted reverse proxies so visitor IPs are read correctly.

5. Privacy and your data
- Country is estimated from the IP address; it is not GPS location. You can turn off IP storage at any time and clear stored IPs.
- External country lookup (api.country.is / ipapi.co) is off on new installs. Behind Cloudflare, country comes from Cloudflare and no lookup is needed.
- Choose a retention period (30–365 days). It also clears old stored IPs on member profiles. Deleting a WordPress user deletes their Member Geo history; Tools → Export / Erase Personal Data include Member Geo.
- Updates and deactivation never delete data. Deleting the plugin keeps data unless an administrator has ticked Delete all Member Geo data when the plugin is deleted.
6. Troubleshooting
I locked myself out after enabling blocking
Add define('ETMG_DISABLE_BLOCKING', true); to wp-config.php above “That’s all, stop editing”. Blocking stops immediately while monitoring continues. Log in, add your IP to Trusted IP / CIDR or remove the country, then remove the line. WP-CLI is never blocked: wp option update etmg_blocking_enabled 0.
Every visitor shows the same IP address
Your server sits behind a reverse proxy. Add the proxy address shown on the Settings screen under Trusted reverse proxies. Forwarded-IP headers are ignored from anyone else, so visitors cannot fake their IP.
Country shows “Unknown”
Private or reserved IPs have no country. Otherwise enable Cloudflare, or switch on External country lookup fallback and mention it in your privacy policy.
“License is site limit” or “domain mismatch”
Each Pro key covers one website. Click Deactivate licence on the old website first, then activate on the new one. If the old site is gone, open a support ticket and we will release the key.
My licence shows expired after renewing
Click Re-check licence on the Member Geo screen. Renewal extends the same key; the site also re-checks automatically within an hour while you are in WordPress admin.
I paid but have no licence key yet
Pro keys are issued only after payment verification. Your order shows as Pending in My Account → Orders until it is approved; the key is then emailed and listed in My Products.
Updates do not appear
Open Dashboard → Updates and click Check again. Updates come from EasyTools.my and are SHA-256 verified; firewalls must allow outbound HTTPS to easytools.my.
A notice overlaps the Member Geo dashboard header
Update to Member Geo 2.1.6 or later. Admin notices then appear above the dashboard header.

Does it work with normal WordPress users?
Yes. Member Geo is designed around standard WordPress accounts and login activity.
Can I block an IP address?
Yes. Pro adds one-click IP blocking plus trusted IP and CIDR controls.
Can I block a country?
Yes. Pro can restrict member/login access by country without turning the plugin into a whole-site firewall.
Does it work behind Cloudflare?
The plugin can use trusted Cloudflare forwarding headers while avoiding untrusted spoofed client-IP headers.
Does it store IP addresses?
Administrators can control IP storage and remove stored IP information when needed.
Can I use Free first?
Yes. Start free and upgrade only when you need history, risk intelligence, blocking, alerts or exports.
Does it work with EasyTools Secure Access?
Yes. Member Geo recognises EasyTools temporary users when Secure Access is installed. Advanced bypass controls are available in Pro.
When is my Pro licence issued?
After our team verifies your payment receipt. Until then the order is Pending and no key is issued.
How many websites does Pro cover?
One website per licence, renewed yearly at RM 39.90.
Does Member Geo block my public website?
No. Its geo/IP restrictions are designed for WordPress login access, not the public front-end website.
